There are a number of laminations and treatments for Cartonboard. These include: hard sizing to increase water resistance, board machine treatment or
lacquering to provide grease resistance (GR), lamination with aluminium foil or metallised polyester film for decorative effect and product protection and cast
coating to give a very high gloss and/or coloured finish.
Other treatments include: extrusion coating with plastics such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) giving various
levels of water and moisture vapour protection, heat sealability, product resistance and heat resistance (for use in microwave and conventional ovens), heat seal
varnishing of heat sealability to plastic ‘blister’ materials and wax coating – ‘dry’ waxing for moisture and product protection and ‘wet’ waxing for high gloss,
heat sealing and product protection.
